On Saturday, May, 27th, 2017 the United Neighborhood Association (UNA) conducted their neighborhood cleanup event.  The UNA were successful recipients of a grant provided by Wenatchee Rotary.  More than half a dozen volunteers from Wenatchee Rotary joined with than a dozen volunteers from the neighborhood to complete the one-day cleanup effort.

The grant funded two large dumpsters from Waste Management.  One was placed at the Ferry Street Market (Ferry St. & Methow) and the other at the Methow Market (Peachey St. & Methow).  Working together, these two large containers were filled within three hours.    Community members were very pleased to be able to dispose of items too bulky for regular garbage service.  UNA volunteers assisted elderly and disabled community members by removing items and delivering them to the two dumping locations.

With the assistance of Norma Gaegos, there were bi-lingual community members at both locations to clearly explain what items could be dumped and items were not allowed in the Waste Management dumpsters.  Community members were provided information on where they could recycle old tires, batteries, TV’s, computers and other household hazardous waste.

The people who live in South Wenatchee want a clean and safe neighborhood to raise their children, care for the aged, build successful businesses and promote diverse cultures. This cleanup project was a great success in terms of UNA delivering tangible results in their neighborhood.  Thank you Wenatchee Rotarians!  (submitted & provided by Rotarian Dick Reed)
