To help celebrate the 100th Birthday of the Rotary Foundation, the first of two District 5060 Million Dollar Dinners was held in Wenatchee Friday night, April 7. See group photo below. Our event was a huge success well-attended by many Rotary locals and VIPs. The fund-raising goals were exceeded. $1,571,684.03(USD)!!! Carolyn Ferguson stated that "... just over $1 million of that total came from the US side.”
Keynote speaker Michael McGovern did a magnificent job of describing the history and importance of The Rotary Foundation, especially PolioPlus.
Special thanks go to Pete Erickson, PDG 1999-00. He was the largest donor in the District when he established a permanent education fund in honor of his late wife Melinda Erickson for an annual peace conference to train world leaders in peace and conflict resolution at Uppsala University in Sweden, one of the top 100 universities in the world. He worked with all the clubs in his area and recognized donors at the Rotary Club of Wenatchee awards ceremony.
Special thanks also go out to Greg Luring DG 2015-16, and his wife Jan for fundraising in Yakima area clubs. Over $55,500 was raised through the tribute fund for Wenatchee orthopedic surgeon ED Cadman (see a link below) who helped lead Rotary into the worldwide fight to eradicate polio.

DG VERN NEILSEN TRIBUTE
A Rotary memorial fund has been set up in memory of our beloved District Governor Vern Neilson of the Kelowna Club who passed away February 11. Our club Foundation has created a "Vern Nielsen Fund" and will collect donations until the district fund reaches a minimum of $25,000 USD. At this time a Permanent Named Fund will be set up with the Rotary International Foundation in Vern’s name, and the proceeds of this fund will be used to fund grants and projects throughout Vern’s Rotary District 5060 in perpetuity.
