THIS WEEK - SPORTS MEDICINE, WITH DALE BLAIR OF WHS

The Wenatchee High School Sports Medicine Program has been in operation since 1992.
Dale Blair has been the Head Athletic Trainer and teacher for the program. The Program serves over 15 boys and girls sports programs for a total annually  of over (900) students.  The program has been very successful at district, state and national competitions..  Dale wrote the curricula for all levels I,II and III for Sports Medicine, Fitness Specialist and Health Occupations courses at WHS.  The program is an entry level program for students wanting to enter into the field of professional Sports Medicine.   Dale will be able to outline the total program and its accomplishments at our meeting.
Thank Susan Albert for bringing this program.
(Note:  Expect some memorable pleasant surprises at this meeting; don't miss it!)

WEEK IN REVIEW - 5/17/18 -  Unmanned Aviation
Byron Noel is presented by Jessi Mendoza, and is the Operations Coordinator for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) program at Big Bend Community College, in Moses Lake, WA.  From South Africa, he has worked in many countries all over the world and he says many think he is from Australia because of accent similarity.   Listen for yourself here for the presentation AUDIO.
See his extensive bio in last week's Appleseed.

Using an informative PowerPoint presentation, Byron explained the history of aerial drones and many of today's expanded applications, describing the many types of drones in use today.
He gave many insights into the current business needs for UAS and how the college is meeting those needs through Federal Title V grant funding (now in year 2 of 5).  Click here to see the college curriculum outline. for the 2-year degree and certification.
He emphasized that for those interested in this career, it is not enough to be a good pilot,, but one must be able to collect the necessary data needed by the employer.  Yes it is a fun tool, but still only a tool for business, like a pickup truck.  Pilots need to obtain an FAA 107 license, and they can expect to have no problem finding a career in the field, as there will likely be more than 100,000 related jobs by 2025.
Questioned about the current progress of the technology, he explained that current Federal regulations are impeding progress in commercial development despite the fact that the USA has led the world in this technology.

Respectfully submitted by the secretary.

   IMPORTANT HAPPENINGS

We were pleased to welcome our newest member, Carin Smith, sponsored by Gil Sparks and eloquently charged by Nate Bishop.  All will get to meet Carin when she serves as greeter at her next few meetings with Gil.

Tom Mcnair introduced his guest Ashley Gillam, Director of Program Development at Central Washington Univiersity at Ellensburg.  She presented a check for $269.50 to the club from the proceeds of a basketball game fund-raiser last December.  Pete donated it to our polio initiative "Club 60" fund (we are very close to making our goal - see below).  And then Jim Brink won the raffle drawing for the second time, and again donated it to the fund.  The marbles drawn by Chuck Clugston were both white, so Pete announced that if the black marble is not selected next week, on May 31, tickets will be drawn until there is a winner.

Andy Petro again appealed for a host family for RYE student Chloe (Belgium) who speaks German and French, arriving in August.  The commitment would be for 1/3 of her stay.  If interested,  Email Andy.

Save the Date!  Pete again reminded us to buy tickets for the big Friend-Raiser "Wine Down by the Riverside" on July 14th at Warm Springs Inn. This event is part of the preparation for our 2019 Building Communities Auction.    As of now, anyone can buy tickets directly from our website, at $35 each using a credit card.
More later on the BBQ, wine, games, fun, and friends.

Several of our members planned to attend the District Conference in Prosser May 17-19 [and did].
