AUGUST 15 - ROTARY SPEED DATING
with 5 Club members & President Mike
Who wants to sit through an entire program of budgets, committee assignments and membership figures? Not your President!).  I’m hearing crickets…  Who would rather have the opportunity to get to know your fellow Rotarians better?  You have two minutes to tell your story – and then you listen to another Rotarian’s story for two minutes.  By the end of our meeting, you’ll be a bit more familiar with others in your club.  So polish up your best elevator speech- and let’s have some fun!

Mike's Musings

Okay- “Smile…And The World Smiles With You” was not a song known to the majority of those in attendance last Thursday.  This got me to musing about Don Kay, a longtime Rotarian who passed several years ago.  As song leader of our club, Don used to lead the club in singing his favorite song… “Smile…”  Back then, everyone knew the song and words.  Our Rotary family has changed considerably since Don and his peers were the mainstays of  Wenatchee Rotary- to the point that we are no longer your grandfather’s Rotary club. Attendance requirements have been relaxed, we’re more focused on hands-on service projects and in making a tangible impact in our community and our world. But we still have strong ties to our heritage; education, Polio Plus, parks and youth services continue to be central themes for our club.    Maybe the backbeat of the songs we sing might be different- but we continue to be part of an incredible organization that makes an impact in our community and the world every day. Thanks for what you do for Rotary- and thanks for giving “Smile…” a willing effort!     - Mike

WEEK IN REVIEW AUGUST 01 -  RIVERCOM 911
with Misty Viebrock

President Mike opened the meeting by leading the song "Smile and the World Smiles with You".  A few actually knew some of the words. CLICK HERE TO LISTEN.
Before the program, our newest member Shannon Sims was inducted, after introduction by her sponsor Tom McNair, who also delivered the chrage for Shannon and Jessica Kendall.  Photos below.
Misty Viebrock was introduced by P/E Nominee Alice Meyer.  Misty spoke with dedicated clarity about the RiverCom Emergency Communication System, its history, functions, and its current needs.  The upcoming vote Aug 6, will extend the current small sun-setting sales tax indefinitely to continue the current service and help pay for need improvements.  In 2018, this tax revenue (0.1%) accounted for 44% of total Rivercom annual revenue and helped other public safety agencies.  Since the tax began in 2010, Rivercom has received more than $23M.
When Rivercom was formed, no funding mechanism was established to pay for most future equipment or technology.  READ MORE HERE. .... CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO MISTY.

End Polio Now/Club 60:    As we begin our new Rotary year, we are coming off a fantastic year, raising about $10K.  Thanks to Judy Conner for that huge finishing [ush over the top!.    On July 25, donations by club members to the Club-60 cups were $43 bringing our total to $130 or $390 with the Gates match!  This equates to 651 lives potentially saved!
No goal set for this year

Note:  We continue our 10-year relationship with the Gates Foundation.  Since 2013, they have matched each dollar with $2 toward polio eradication.
