Led by past-president Bill Murray and other dignitaries
Head-count needed for meal purchases - RSVP here

End of Year, Peaceful Transfer of Power, Presidential Roast/Recognition/Tribute, Installation of officers.  These are some of the names traditionally assigned to the final meeting of the Rotary year as we transfer the leadership reins from outgoing president Don Myers to new president Pete Van Well.

The excellent noon buffet lunch will be catered by "Two Chefs" at a cost of $17 total.  Be prepared to pay by cash or check if needed.  RSVP to reserve a meal.  Jones Winery will open at 11 AM for wine or tasting.

President Don Myers will be honored and/or roasted this week at our special gathering inside the beautifully-remodeled Pybus Event Center.  Don't miss the fun!
We already heard last week about Don's year behind us, and we will hear Pete's plans next week, upon his return from the Rotary International Convention in Toronto.  So this week will be devoted mainly to our own review of Don's year.  It should be a memorable event.

Next week -  Pres. Pete Van Well: RI Convention Review/Year Ahead
See other important future program details below.
WEEK IN REVIEW, 6/21/18 -  Year in Review
President Don Myers presiding for the final time as President.
"Donning" his Superman costume. President Don reflected on the last 12 months.
He related the experience of being recruited to serve 3 years ago by PP Nate Bishop, and how he wanted to be a Superman president in setting lofty goals.  But then, stripping to his "Clark Kent" attire, he lamented only achieving 14 of his 25 goals.  But even though we may not have met specific statistical levels, he believes we satisfied some major targeted values.

1. Relationships.  We have all helped to invest in and build friendships with people.
2. Leadership.  Don recognized and praised his support team at the head table: President-elect (P/E) Pete Van Well, Treasurer & P/E nominee Mike Kintner, P/E nominee designate Kory Kalahar, and secretary Frank Clifton.  These help keep us building for the future.
3. Giving Hearts.   We have done extremely well at giving to our foundation, the Rotary Foundation, the PolioPlus fund, and other needs.
Joe St. Jean was then asked to give a report on the year's achievements of the Community Outreach Committee for all four funding cycles (as posted on our website), resulting in total awards to the community of $10,000 raised through our 2017 auction.
Future president Kory Kalahar (principal of WestSide High school) was asked to describe last Thursday's graduation activities (the 32nd); he related that with 87 graduates, it was the second-largest class ever.  He then presented the "Friend of WestSide Award" to Mario Cantu, for his valued assistance over the last 6 years.
4. Membership.  We are strengthening our membership committee and especially our mentoring process.  We had a high goal for recruiting this year but essentially broke even.  We have 3 potential new members in the approval cycle.
5. Learning & Fun.  We learn from our excellent programs, e.g. we were prepared for the recent Alcoa headlines because of Tracy Yount's PUD program.  Also, our vocabularies were extensively expanded on a weekly basis. smiley

Appeals for the future.
1. Invest in a leader. Consider being a mentor at one of our high schools (ask Kory), lunch buddies, Interact.
2. Invest in a friend. Be available to help or listen to others.
3. Support President Pete.  We have a great year ahead.  Ask how you can help achieve our goals.

Don explained his sabbatical over the next 3 months.  In August he will accomplish a 40-year bucket-list goal - hiking the Washington leg of the Pacific Crest Trail, 510 miles.  He then gave away some great prizes, including coffee, wine, candy, gift cards, and a KITTEN!
