FEBRUARY IS ROTARY'S PEACE AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION MONTH

PROGRAM THIS WEEK
CLASSIFICATION
With Xavier Arinez

These talks are a cornerstone to our Rotary club and provide a great way to connect with each other.  You will not want to miss learning about one of our newer members.
Xavier joined the club July 01, 2022, sponsored by Rachel Evey.  He had previously been a member of two other clubs, which he will likely tell us about, one of which was in South America.

Program of January 26:
Mental Health Counselling
With "Mad Dog" Mike Magnotti
Sponsored and introduced by Mark Kulaas

Mike Magnotti has lived in Washington State since January of 1973.  Mike earned a BA degree Biblical literature 1977.  For 20 years he served as a police officer for the city of Wenatchee, retiring at the rank of sergeant in December 2006. During his police career Mike specialized in the areas of sexual assault, child abuse, and domestic violence.  READ MORE
He spoke today about his experiences working with Child Protective Services (CPS) and PTSD with military veterans, who have experienced the horrors of war.  He promoted a book titled What it's Like to go to War, by Karl Marlantes.
He has learned that one's behavior flow from one's beliefs, and that mental health lies in a spectrum of seriousness and degree.
He mentioned a single evil word which can cause a man to be detained on spouse-abuse charges.

This week's News and Announcements.

IMAGINE ROTARY MOMENT.   President Jill recognized members who are quick to readily serve our club.
Natalie Williams joined our club with gusto and has filled two community vacuums:  She has begun a lonely movement to bring glass recycling back to Wenatchee in a similar fashion to that achieved by Lake Chelan Rotary; and she took the lead in Wenatchee for DG Karl's dream for a pollinator highway through the district by leading a team to build a pollinator garden.
Dick Reed steps up and volunteers whenever needed, as he demonstrated today before the meeting when we needed water for lunch.

INTERACT FUNDRAISER Feb. 10.   Last week, Susan Albert and RYE student Rosario announced a showing of "The Breadwinner", a 2017 movie (adult animated drama film) to be shown at Wenatchee High School auditorium hoping to raise $10K to help bring a refugee Afghan family here to join another Afghan family.   Refreshments will be available and a small art gallery.  Marketplace opens at 6:45 PM, movie at 7.  Suggested donation is $10 pp.
The film received an Oscar nomination in 2018 for best animated film and is based on a novel by Deborah Ellis dealing with life under Taliban rule in the late 1990s.  Watch trailer here on IMDB website.

From 1998-2008 Wenatchee Rotary contributed over $33,000 to Washington Park.   The major renovations include a new restroom.  Kiwanis built the Picnic Shelter in 2017.

PAIR & SHARE
Here is the latest example of members getting together for fun and fellowship.
Pete Van Well reports that Alice Nieman lost her mother last week.  Let's remember her with cards of sympathy.  As you know, Alice was a longtime friend and caregiver of our sweet Carmen Bossenbrock.  Cards can be sent to Alice Neiman at PO Box 331, Dryden, WA 98821.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK.   Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.  - Francis of Assisi
