HELP NEEDED – COMMUNITY OUTREACH – May 8th.
The Rotary Club of Wenatchee (that’s us) has joined with Sunrise Rotary, Confluence Rotary, and East Wenatchee Rotary in sponsoring two food distributions this summer. The first will be this coming Wednesday, May 8th, at the Community Center, 504 South Chelan Avenue. Please join us from 10:45 until 1 p.m. in helping the less fortunate in our community as well as joining other Rotarians in living the “Service Above Self” motto. The food distribution is not physically challenging but it is outdoors and involves mostly standing. Your help is appreciated even if you can’t commit to the entire time.
Having fun in Rotary,

UPCOMING PROGRAMS
MAY 9 - WE DAY AT WESTSIDE HIGHSCHOOL
1510 Ninth Street
The " We Day " program will be hosted in the WestSide High School cafeteria by principal Kory Kalahar (president 2020-21).
Kory will introduce WestSide’s Leadership Club advisor, Sheena Zacherle, who will share the inception of the club and what it means to earn a spot and attend We Day. We will also hear from Ruben Rosales, Leadership Club President, who was honored by We Day on stage April 18th in front of 27,000 people in the Tacoma Dome!
We Day is an international celebration of middle and high school service projects to impact the community and world. The “We Day” program travels from state to state hosting a huge concert-like party for the students going above and beyond. You can’t buy tickets to We Day if you want to go, you earn them with service projects. Sheena Zacherle, graduation specialist and Career and Technical Education teacher at WestSide, will share the inception of their Leadership Club and what she has done to cultivate such an amazing service club active as Advisor for the past five years. This year, WestSide High School earned thirty tickets to We Day and were able to bring 27 students and three chaperones. Throughout the five hour event, there are a multitude of celebrities sharing words of inspiration, challenging young people to make a global impact, and lifting the expectations high for supporting these moving projects. Not only was WestSide on the floor and in the front at the Tacoma Dome, our Leadership Club President was called on stage to receive the “Get Doing” Award in front of 27,000 people from all over the Pacific Northwest!
We will be having a BBQ, so please bring $5 to grab a burger or hot dog or bring a sack lunch! It will be a fun time program with no pop quizzes and hopefully no one will steal your lunch money. Guests are always welcome.
MAY 16 - WENATCHEE ROTARY FOUNDATION
Wenatchee Rotary Foundation Annual Meeting
& Board Nominations
Your Wenatchee Rotary Foundation will be holding it’s annual meeting Thursday, May 16, 2019.
Come hear all about the exciting recipients of the 2019 scholarships. Please plan to attend and find out what work your foundation has been doing for you.
We are a stand alone nonprofit managed by members of this club. Each year one third of this board is up for reelection; or after two terms replacement. The annual meeting of the Foundation will be during the Club's May 16th lunch meeting and the election will take place at that time. See chart below for list of current officers and board.
We encourage any of you interested in running for an open position to let me know. We are a working board (about an hour per month of your time plus a one hour meeting most months). We seek two skill sets: 1. Those interested in helping us grow our corpus - fundraising. 2. Those interested in helping award scholarships and gifts. This is a fun and rewarding board and I hope you will consider joining us. I hope to see you May 16 at noon.
May 1- About a dozen members, along with about 300 others, attended the All-Service-Club and Community Luncheon at the Wenatchee Convention Center., hosted by the Central Lions Club. It was an elegant and fascinating event, featuring some amazing people., such as the keynote speaker Melissa Arias, Make-A-Wish director for Washington-Alaska, Apple Citizen of the Year, Dalton Thomas, Leman Johnson Award winners Jim and Pat McDonald, and the Grand Marshals, Mark Farnham and David Wright, great grandsons of festival founder Susan Wagner, and were brought here from New Zealand for the festival. Since the Wenatchee World did not report this event, no further information is available, and it has been dropped from the festival calendar.
May 3-5- Five club members cheerfully made the 6-hour drive to Kamloops, BC for the annual District 5060 Conference at the Coast Kamloops Hotel, hosted by all of the Kamloops clubs : Pete Van Well, Bill Murray, Susan Albert, Laurie Flarity-White, and Frank Clifton, and Chloe, along with 2 Interact students who joined a group of students from around the district. Excellent speakers included Brittany Arthur, PRIVP Dean Rohrs, RI Director & President's Representative Jeffry Cadorette, and motivational speaker Jordan Harrison. Our entertaining MC was local broadcaster Jim Reynolds (Daybreak). Brittany, a former Ambassadorial Scholar, at age 31 was the MC at the recent Toronto RI Convention.
The youth participated in a volunteer project at the BC Wildlife Park, and two "Rotary Now" workshops. Most attendees joined in Home Hosting with local families. On Saturday, Pete and Bill presented a breakout session on our two Haiti Clean Water initiatives, as well as hosting a Haiti booth in the House of Friendship (HOF). They used an excellent PowerPoint prepared by Carin Smith, who is vacationing in Italy.
Frank led two breakout sessions on ClubRunner. Other breakouts covered Rotary Grants, Days for Girls, Fundraiser ideas, Membership ideas, Food Bank ideas, and Environment. Frank received a district-service award at the banquet. Susan won a free international trip via a drawing based on visits to all the booths in HOF. Note the beautiful banner Pete was able to have made in a few hours on Friday. Pete also provided these photos.
The club sponsored 5 tonsil surgeries for needy children. READ MORE.
Join Kory Kalahar & John McDarment on the Centennial Committee . Help plan the January 16, 2021 big celebration gala at the Wenatchee Convention Center.
