    OCTOBER  24 -  LINK TRANSIT
with DGE Richard DeRock, Executive Director
Richard DeRock directs the public transit system for Chelan and Douglas Counties, overseeing a staff of 125 and 62 buses.  Link Transit serves about 115,000 persons in a 3,000 square mile service area.
Richard will share information, including timelines, on how Link Transit is working to implement service improvements / expansion that voters within our service district of Chelan and Douglas Counties have authorized through the positive results of the August 6th vote and approval of the sales tax initiative Link Transit had proposed.

Richard is a former member of Wenatchee Rotary and will be our next District Governor.
    OCTOBER  31 -  LEGISLATIVE UPDATES
Brad began serving the people of the 12th District in the Legislature in 2013 and to the Senate in 2018. His legislative priorities focus on the essential services of government: education, transportation and public safety. As a former school-board member, he believes quality public schools and higher-education institutions can prepare a workforce to help the economy prosper. Maintaining state roads and bridges are vital to transporting the 12th District’s world-class agricultural products. He believes providing necessary law enforcement, judicial oversight and corrections will help maintain a safe environment for our businesses and families. Brad supports state budgeting efforts that are aligned to deliver these services in the most cost-effective manner possible.
He is currently the ranking member on the Early Learning and K-12 committees and serves on three other committees.

Brad grew up in the Wenatchee Valley and received his K-12 education in the Wenatchee School District. After graduating magna cum laude from Central Washington University, he completed his Master’s in Public Administration at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Brad returned to the Wenatchee Valley after graduation. He and his wife, Shawna, live in East Wenatchee with their two young children.

He has been active in his community, serving on the North Central Educational Service District Board of Directors, Wenatchee Valley YMCA Board of Directors, and the Eastmont School Board, including two years as school-board president.

  • TRIVIA.  Mike's useless trivia for the week (#16):  How fast do you think? The human body is capable of amazing things. For instance, when your brain sends messages, the signals travel along billions of nerve cells (neurons), synapses, and neurotransmitters in a process that can be as speedy as 200 miles an hour.

WORLD POLIO DAY IN WENATCHEE

Rotarians are asked to drop by to help out front KPQ Radio on Wenatchee Ave. this Thursday, Oct. 24 between 7 a.m. and noon. No one is expected to stay the entire time, but an hour or two of service would be appreciated. The radio DJs will let people know we are out front collecting to end global Polio.

That evening at 6 p.m. at the Wenatchee Senior Center or Maple Street is the World’s Greatest Dinner to End Polio. It is potluck…A-H bring Main Dish; I-P bring Side Dish; and Q-Z bring Salad. Admission it $5 per person/$15 per family. There will be games and raffles and all sorts of fun! Family friendly. Coffee, Tea and water will be provided as will dinner service items. Beer, wine and spirits are BYOB. This is a joint effort with Leavenworth, Cashmere, East Wenatchee, Wenatchee Sunrise and Wenatchee Confluence.

The goal is to help raise funds to match the generous $26,000 donation to the district from Wenatchee Rotarian Jim Russell and wife Karen.

GENEROUS DONORS REVEALED!

An incredibly generous grant of $26,000 is being made to the Wenatchee Rotary Club specifically for the Polio Plus campaign.  The benefactors, who are beloved members of our Rotary family, have requested that these funds be leveraged by all clubs in District 5060 to spur individual Rotarians to consider their individual contributions for this worthy cause.  To the benefactors we say- “Well Done- And Thank You!”.  For our club members, please consider your individual contributions to RI. It would be great to honor this generous gift by matching it with individual contributions.

EVEN BIGGER NEWS!  The same benefactors are also making substantial grants to District 5060 and to RI for a Guatemalan literacy program, totaling up to $101,000.  These are remarkable acts of generosity that will impact the world.  The generous donors have been revealed as Jim and Karen Russell!

This proves that once again- It’s a Great Day to be a Rotarian!

SPEAKERS.   Are you thinking of sponsoring a speaker?  Guidelines are posted on our website under the main menu.  Or click here.

Goal is $7500 for Rotary year

Note:  We continue our 10-year relationship with the Gates Foundation.  Since 2013, they have matched each dollar with $2 toward polio eradication.
