FEBRUARY IS ROTARY'S PEACE AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION MONTH
PROGRAM THIS WEEK
CIVIL RIGHTS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE
IN THE WENATCHEE VALLEY
Elvis Garcia is the Founder and Executive Director of the Elvis Garcia Foundation which believes that higher education is a basic human need and essential to a healthy democracy. Garcia earned the 2021 Civil Rights and Social Justice Award presented by the City of Wenatchee and the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center. Make plans to attend (in-person preferred) this valuable topic and learn how we can promote peace and understanding one individual at a time.
MEETING INFORMATION. This week - Pybus Event Center
GREETERS THIS WEEK - Rachel Evey, Bill Monnette, Nancy Grette
Greeters are selected so as to combine one from each of 3 groups:
board (club or Foundation), seasoned members, new members.
Classification talks are the root of connecting members. Xavier did not disappoint! New member Xavier, has been a Rotary member in two clubs prior to joining the Wenatchee Rotary club. He gave a unique description of his life using illustrative anecdotes. Xavier described his roots, his family and his work experience.
Xavier began his life in Bolivia and studied engineering before getting into the field of health care.
1. A good way to show others the power of Rotary is to pass along the Rotary Magazine. This good practice to reuse, recycle or repurpose can showcase Rotary and practice being environmentally responsible.
2. A Scholarship Testimonial - "I am expecting to graduate this spring in May with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and my certification in Secondary Education from Gonzaga University. I will not be reapplying for the scholarship as I am in my last semester of college. Thank you so much for the support that Wenatchee Rotary Club provided for me. You all helped me to have an opportunity to attend college and be the first in my family to graduate from a university with a degree. Thank you for all the support and encouragement!"Mariana Santos

ROTARY CITATION AWARD. AG (Area 8) Shanley Crane presented this coveted citation to PP Alice Meyer for achievements during her year as president (2021-22). To receive this, a club must achieve 13 of 25 possible goals. All 7 (of 11) area clubs received it, the only area in District 5060 to do so!
Shanley also promoted the district conference coming in May in Leavenworth (Events, below). This is one of our RI goals which help to earn the citation.
Shanley also recognized PP Mike Kintner who replaces her as AG in July. She (and President Jill) strongly urged our members to consider volunteering to help with the conference. Contact chair Colin Brine.
