With Russ Speidel, Suzi Pitts, Alina from Ukraine, and The Rev. Dr. Keith Madsen
Friends of Ukraine Refugees is a 501(c)(3) Charitable Nonprofit Corporation based in Wenatchee, Washington. Its purpose is to stabilize refugees from the war in Ukraine who arrive in Central Washington. It has no paid staff. Its Board of Directors and supporters are unpaid volunteers.
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-fledged war on Ukraine. To address the needs of Ukrainian refugees coming to Central Washington, volunteers formed Friends of Ukraine Refugees on May 11, 2022. By June 30, the organization was assisting 21 refugee families in Chelan, Douglas, and Grant counties. By year end, more than 50 Ukrainian refugee families had settled in Central Washington. Friends of Ukraine Refugees provides these refugees with immediate support in housing, necessities, an immigration attorney, interpreting, education, welcoming, mileage, furniture, clothing, and job searches.
In May 2023, refugees from the war in Ukraine continue to arrive in Central Washington. Come and hear firsthand what’s happening.

Rotary Fellowships. Are you into beer? Flyfishing? Old and Rare Books? Pickleball, Camping, Gourmet Cooking?
I have talked all year about how our diverse interests and backgrounds are what makes Rotary so powerful and special. Did you know that you can take your love of a hobby and meet other like minded people around the world? That is where Rotary Fellowships come into play.
Rotary Fellowships are international groups that share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends around the world, explore a hobby or profession, and enhance your Rotary experience. Want to learn more?

INTERACT NEWS. We had at least 10 Interact students show up to encourage incoming Freshman at the High School to check out Interact Club next year! We had the outgoing President and Vice President show up, and the incoming new President for next year. We had more than 2 dozen students sign up to receive reminders about the meetings next year, too!
This was our last meeting of the year for the Interact Club; 29 students attended plus 3 Rotarians and Advisor Christine Payton. Mrs. Payton made beautiful floral and beach-y shell sand globes for each graduating senior. They were surprised and happy to receive gifts! Here are 3 who were really thrilled to get them!
The Leavenworth Rotary Pollinator Garden coordinated with Leavenworth Nursery, and with the Leavenworth Garden Club and the city to get an optimal location in town. The club also got the city to fix the sprinkler systems so they would not have to continue to water it. Leavenworth is also trying to get a sign so that when the District Conference putt-putters finish at the prologue event, they will see it on their way to Festhall on Friday.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK.
“If Rotary is to stay relevant and successful far into the future, then we need to tell our story better and often so that everybody understands what Rotary is and more importantly what Rotary does.”
