It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Rotarian Stan Hoyt, aged 90.  Stan was a longtime Rotarian (36 years) and fixture in the community.  He was a regular attendee despite health issues in his later years.  Stan was well respected in both our club and also in the Wenatchee area.  Details of his memorial will be provided at a later date.  We wish Bev comfort in this difficult time.

   DECEMBER 12 - CHRISTMAS PARTY
with Santa and more
All members are invited to bring your spouses, significant others and darling children and grandchildren to celebrate Christmas Rotary Style at our December 12th meeting.
Our Lewis and Clark Elementary Lunch Buddies will be attending, and Wenatchee High School Choral Department is coming to entertain, and of course, Santa will be there.  Red Lion will provide a  “kid friendly” buffet.
(If you bring a kiddo, can you help Santa out by shopping and wrapping a small gift for that day?).

Are you kidding?  Christmas is only three weeks away- already?  How did that happen?  That means it is time to write the traditional year-end Christmas letter- shifting through the ashes of just another year.  Or is it really “just another year”?  Not for our Belgian Rotary Exchange Student Chloe, nor her successor , Italian Beatrice.  It also isn’t for our outbound Emily who is spending the year in Finland.  For them, this is a year they will never forget.  Is it “just another year”?  Not for the high school students whose lives are being transformed by their Interact experience.  “Just another year?” Not for the numerous recipients of our Wenatchee Rotary Foundations’ academic scholarships. “Just another year”? Not for the people of Milot, Haiti who have access to clean water.  Not to the people of Ferrier Haiti that will be benefitting from our participation in the clean water efforts of HANWASH.  “Just another year”? Not for the many non-profit recipients of direct grants from the Wenatchee Rotary Club Community Service Committee.  Just another year?  Not to our newest Rotarians who chose to join our organization to make a difference in our community and our world.  “Just another year”?  Not to the millions of people around the globe who have been vaccinated for polio and did not contract that dread disease.  “Just another year”?  Not to our members who put on an extraordinarily successful auction in January- and are stepping up to accomplish the same in early 2020.    “Just another year”? Not with the passing of two Past District Governors and several other long-term influential Rotarians from our club.  “Just another year”? Not with the successful conclusion of the second picnic shelter at Rotary Park, a culmination of over a decade of effort for that project.  Not for the people who will enjoy the upgrades at Lincoln Park that our club is funding.  “Just another year”? Not for the Women in Rotary- an inter-club fellowship came into being in 2019.  Hmmm…this has been an extraordinary year- with some much great stuff right around the corner (hint- mark your calendars for January 2021 when our club celebrates its 100th year!).  Now that I think about it, I can’t wait for 2020!

Just so ‘ya know…#25 - Community Outreach

Just a reminder that our Rotary Auction is closer than you think!

Have you turned in one or more Donor Receipts & Pickup Order slips yet?  ...or is it just an unfulfilled thought in the back of your mind?  Rotary has a week's hiatus due to Thanksgiving so use that gift of time to secure an item or two for our auction.
I hear that the procurement committee is in need of mid-priced silent auction items. Look around your house or canvas the neighborhood for auction items.
Example:  I 'found' a new, in the box, Penn Level Wind Reel that I had inherited from my father.  Value - $59.95  I hope that at least two people want a nice salmon reel and are willing to bid it up.

The procurement committee is also in need of BIG ticket items for the live auction.  We have few very nice big ticket items, large entertainment parties, and wonderful travel packages but could use a few more.  Do you have access to items that could be paired with other items that could make a great gift or get-away package?  A few years ago a Rotarian and his wife put up for bid the opportunity to babysit their infant for an evening.  How cool was that! Grandparents in the audience bid that one way up!   If you have an idea, act now to secure that item for our auction.

Soon we will be involved in selling tickets for our auction. The evening promises to be filled with great food and lots of action.  Ask your neighbors, or you can try to fill up one of our tables... or just invite your in-laws.  We need lots of people to get behind our worthwhile projects and spend money to support Rotary action in our community.  Do it before our next Rotary meeting...

Happy Thanksgiving...we each have been given so much,
    Joe St. Jean

End Polio Now/Club 60:      Our goal this year is $7500.  On November 21, Club-60-cup donations totaled  $18.15 bringing our total to $754  or $2262 with the Gates match!   This equates to 3777 lives potentially saved!  On World Polio Day, October 24, collections at KPQ totaled. about $700 by our club.  Also, total donations at the Greatest Dinner to End Polio were about $6611 between all clubs represented, plus about $700 in pledges.  Other uncounted donations are made by members through other avenues.
10%        [Goal is $7500 for Rotary year]

Note:  We continue our 10-year relationship with the Gates Foundation.  Since 2013, they have matched each dollar with $2 toward polio eradication.
