TAXES AND DONATIONS
With Kevin Williams & Ken Robertson
Presented by PP Tom McNair
(ZOOM #78, Hybrid # 27)
Our first speaker Thursday will be Kevin Williams. His topic will be "The Washington State Long Term Care Tax".
Kevin is a native of the Tri-Cities and has worked in the family-owned insurance and investment business of Insurance and Financial Consultants, Inc. since 1982. Current past president of the following organizations: National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Kiwanis Club of Pasco, Greater Pasco Area Chamber of Commerce, Lourdes Foundation (charitable arm of local hospital and psychiatric care center). And more.
Married to Rhonda; they have two children, Tyler and Marissa. His personal interests include Camping, fishing, snow skiing, golfing, boating, vocal and instrumental music.
Our own Ken Robertson will be our second speaker. His topic will be "Donating to a charity using a QDC". His bio is as follows:
Ken was born in West Point, New York, so, naturally he grew up to become an U.S. Army officer. After twenty years in the Army, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1974. He spent the next twenty three years working in HR for the Virginia Department of Transportation, the Virginia Employment Commission, and the Virginia Department of Retirement Systems. Then, he and his wife, Heather, picked up and moved to Wenatchee to be close to family here. Lucky family, and lucky Wenatchee Rotary Club!
Ken will be speaking to us about something near and dear to his heart; gifting to his favorite charity from a qualified retirement account.
The Hybrid/ZOOM meeting was opened and led by president Alice Meyer, with Jill Leonard & Thomas Everly as ZOOM hosts at the Pybus Market Event Center. Masking was required.

Scott was sponsored and introduced by President Alice who gave an overview of his interesting background and experience, especially in the military and as an officer of the Los Angeles rescue mission, perhaps the nations largest. He has directed the local Wenatchee Rescue Mission for only a few months, along with his wife Monique, now Director of Women’s Services at the mission's 'Haven of Hope'.
They reside on site as they have been unable to locate suitable housing in the area.
Scott used an excellent PowerPoint and was confident and articulate in describing the history, current activities and needs, as shown in the video above. He showed photos of the facility and his expansion plans. Some of his images are shown below.
Essentially he seeks more community involvement in the mission. See previous Appleseed (above) for more bio on Scott & Monique. He praised Rotary's polio-eradication efforts, as he has an uncle who experienced polio.
Sadly, the Rescue Mission is the "best hidden secret" in Wenatchee, because it has had little outreach. Thus he is personally reaching out to the local homeless. He wants no government help because many homeless don't trust them, and because of red-tape and paperwork.
He wants to offer HELP, HOPE, AND OPPORTUNITY, and offer a disciplined hand up, not a handout. He has some BIG HOLY AUDACIOUS GOALS. He outlined the type of help needed:
Volunteers, donors, advice, more directors for the board, legal counsel for some of the residents (to expunge minor infractions from their past), and donations of goods and services (such as clothing, food and supplies). For much more, visit the website Wenatchee Rescue Mission .

--- From Skeptical Rotarian
Dear Skeptical,
Finally, a missive Dear Applesauce can appreciate! Rest assured, after surviving countless hospitality rooms at District Conference, Dear Applesauce has fortitude to spare! So GAME ON!
P.S. As for the term “silly distraction”, you’re a cheeky one, aren’t you, Skeptical? Dear Applesauce is going to keep an eye on you.
