Dr. Terry Sorom (PP, 93-94) passed away July 6, 2019.    Memorial service is this week, September 14, Grace Lutheran Church, 1408 Washington St., 4 PM.  Read Judy Conner's touching tribute in previous Appleseed.

Rocky Skalisky.  It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of former Rotarian, Rocky Skalisky.   Rocky and spouse, Katrina Borth,  were active members of our Rotary club for several years. Rocky always had a smile on his face and a warm story to tell. He will be missed.  He passed away on Saturday.

     CLASSIFICATION TALKS
with Frank Jorgensen & Trisha Johnson

Part One.  New-member inductions.
Four new members were inducted
Sue Rose delivers an excellent Rotary charge.  Listen to Sue here. Tom McNair introduces the Cox family, Robert, Cheryl, & Samantha.
Ricardo Iniguez is introduced by Jessi Mendoza. Ricardo receives a surprise Paul Harris Fellowship award by Carl Holder, PP of Pasco-Kennewick Rotary, who traveled >100 miles today with Ricardo's brother Jose' for this purpose.

Part 2.  Classification talk by new member Frank Jorgensen, who joined in March, sponsored by Phil Rasmussen.
Frank is a custom builder/contractor and showed some amazing photos of some of his projects, including his own home.  He attended Wenatchee High School, served on the ski team and helped plan the location for Mission Ridge.  He served in the US Navy, then worked at Boeing until laid off after 11 months with 100,000 others.  He met his wife Ursula while working for a delivery service (" ...went to make a delivery and made a pickup instead").  His older daughter earned a Microsoft position by speaking German, learned as a Rotary exchange student there.  He has 3 kids and 6 grand kids.  His son has two businesses in Mukilteo.   View his PowerPoint here.     Listen to the audio here.

Part 3.  Classification talk by new member Trisha Johnson, who joined in January, sponsored by Pete Van Well.  Trisha started working at our Red Lion in 2018 and became Sales Manager earlier this year.  She is from Mount Vernon, but her talented family is from Tennessee.  Her aunts and uncles were travelling entertainers known as the Johnson Five.  She has 5 siblings, 4 nephews, and 1 niece, and loves to play video games with them.  Her dad and step dad were contractors.  She attended school in Cashmere, enjoyng clubs, theater, and choir (with which she sang at Disneyland).  She attended WVC and traveled to NYC with the chamber choir, singing at Carnegie Hall in 1988.  She has been employed at Tree Top lab with her mother, Kelly Telecom, and Kay Jewelers where she learned she was good at sales.  She later worked as a TTY operator with MCI in California and other endeavors.  In 2004 she returned to WA (Port Orchard) where she started a massage therapy business. She joined Rotary because she has a big heart.  Listen here to the rest of her story .  Also, her dog sings ...watch the Facebook video here.   View her PowerPoint here.  [all links will be added later]

HELP NEEDED!  Our last 2nd Harvest Food Distribution of the summer is Wednesday, September 18th, at the Wenatchee community Center (the old St.Joseph’s Church) on South Chelan Street.   Our Club has joined both physically and financially with the other Wenatchee area Rotaries to sponsor this important event.  Come join your fellow Rotarians as we help those in need.  The food distribution is held outside and does require standing for several hours.

We plan to gather at 11 a.m. and are finished around 2 p.m.

Hope to see you there!

Yours in Rotary,
Joe St.Jean

REPEATING BIG NEWS!

An incredibly generous grant of $26,000 is being made to the Wenatchee Rotary Club specifically for the Polio Plus campaign.  The benefactors, who are beloved members of our Rotary family, have requested that these funds be leveraged by all clubs in District 5060 to spur individual Rotarians to consider their individual contributions for this worthy cause.  To the benefactors we say- “Well Done- And Thank You!”.  For our club members, please consider your individual contributions to RI. It would be great to honor this generous gift by matching it with individual contributions.

EVEN BIGGER NEWS!  The same benefactors are also making substantial grants to District 5060 and to RI for a Guatemalan literacy program.  These are remarkable acts of generosity that will impact the world.

This proves that once again- It’s a Great Day to be a Rotarian!

August 10.  Keep up to date with Karen Russell on her personal Caring Bridge page.
PP Jim (2016-17) is an Honorary member.  Karen is has decided it's time for hospice.

SPEAKERS.   Are you thinking of sponsoring a speaker?  Guidelines are posted on our website under the main menu.  Or click here.

End Polio Now/Club 60:      Our goal this year is $7500, in spite of the secretary's erroneous report of no goal.  On September 5, Club-60-cup donations were $35.53 bringing our total to $296  or $888 with the Gates match!   This equates to 1483 lives potentially saved!  Plan now to participate in all our activities on World Polio Day, October 24.
Goal is $7500 for Rotary year

Note:  We continue our 10-year relationship with the Gates Foundation.  Since 2013, they have matched each dollar with $2 toward polio eradication.
