UPCOMING PROGRAMS
MAY 16 - WENATCHEE ROTARY FOUNDATION
Wenatchee Rotary Foundation Annual Meeting
& Board Nominations
Your Wenatchee Rotary Foundation will be holding it’s annual meeting Thursday, May 16, 2019.
Come hear all about the exciting recipients of the 2019 scholarships. Please plan to attend and find out what work your foundation has been doing for you.
We are a stand alone nonprofit managed by members of this club. Each year one third of this board is up for reelection; or after two terms replacement. The annual meeting of the Foundation will be during the Club's May 16th lunch meeting and the election will take place at that time. See chart below for list of current officers and board.
We encourage any of you interested in running for an open position to let me know. We are a working board (about an hour per month of your time plus a one hour meeting most months). We seek two skill sets:
1. Those interested in helping us grow our corpus - fundraising.
2. Those interested in helping award scholarships and gifts.
This is a fun and rewarding board and I hope you will consider joining us. I hope to see you May 16 at noon.
The " We Day " program was hosted in the WestSide High School cafeteria by principal Kory Kalahar (president 2020-21). Kory introduced WestSide’s Leadership Club advisor, Sheena Zacherle, who shared the inception of the club and what it means to earn a spot and attend We Day. We heard from Ruben Rosales, Leadership Club President, who was honored by We Day on stage April 18th in front of 27,000 people in the Tacoma Dome!
We Day is an international celebration of middle and high school service projects to impact the community and world. The “We Day” program travels from state to state hosting a huge concert-like party for the students going above and beyond. You can’t buy tickets to We Day; if you want to go, you earn them with service projects. Sheena, graduation specialist and Career and Technical Education teacher at WestSide, used an informative PowerPoint to further explain the program and some of the recent exciting events and how she has cultivated such an amazing service club over the past five years. This year, WestSide High School earned thirty tickets to We Day and were able to bring 27 students and three chaperones. Throughout the five hour event, there are a multitude of celebrities sharing words of inspiration, challenging young people to make a global impact, and lifting the expectations high for supporting these moving projects. Not only was WestSide on the floor and in the front at the Tacoma Dome, our Leadership Club President was called on stage to receive the “Get Doing” Award in front of 27,000 people from all over the Pacific Northwest!
Sheena's PowerPoint included videos of two key students speaking about the program, but those are not available.
We are pleased about the induction of two new members, Rachel Evey and John Simmons. They will be greeting us next week. Rachel, Executive Director - WVC Foundation, sponsored by Raz. John, a CPA with Homchick-Smith Associates, was sponsored by Pres. Pete. The excellent CHARGE was delivered by PP Judy Conner; LISTEN HERE.
Rachel mentioned the upcoming annual WVC Foundation Gala May 18. Some our members are being honored that night : Terry Sorom, Ford Barrett, Barbara Walters.
President Pete Van Well proclaimed a welcome to the WestSide High School of Rotary Clubs, and made or allowed the following announcements.
The next New-Member breakfast will take place May 21, Smitty's, 7:30 AM. All new or recent members are welcome to come for some fellowship and learning.
At last week's District Conference, service awards were given to Susan and Frank. Susan noted that we had 18 Interact students at the conference for the first time (2 from our club); they participated in a service project with the RYE students. Frank was recognized for his work on the district website and newsletter.

End Polio Now/Club 60: Our ambitious goal was set by President Pete at $10,000. On April 25, donations by club members to the Club-60 cups were $149.67 bringing our total to $7,440, or $22,323with the Gates match! This equates to 37, 280 lives potentially saved! There were no collections during recent off-site meetings.
$7,440
Note: We continue our 10-year relationship with the Gates Foundation. Since 2013, they have matched each dollar with $2 toward polio eradication. Collections at KPQ on Polio Day were $1,133. Read about 2018 World Polio Day, October 24
