Christi Maroney, Executive Director of Together! For Youthwas introduced by President Kory, a board member. Her organization engages and mobilizes families, schools, and community to advance the health, safety, and success of our youth. [survey https://togethercd.org/2020-community-survey/ ]
Established in 1993, TOGETHER! for Youth is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing prevention services to Chelan & Douglas County youth. Our mission is to engage & mobilize families, schools and the community to advance the health safety & success of our youth.
"We work to prevent substance use, bullying, violence, crime and suicide for those under the age of 18. We partner with school districts, individual schools and a large variety of community organizations to provide a variety of programs to students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. We provide services to those over the age of 18 which include free parenting courses in partnership with the Wenatchee School District and a Crime Victim Advocacy program to support crime victims to ensure they have meaningful access to all their rights under the law.
TOGETHER! for Youth is primarily funded by grants, but private donations provide the flexibility we need to allow for unexpected expenses and opportunities that may arise. All donations are tax-deductible and greatly appreciated.
Every year, TOGETHER! for Youth conducts a Community Survey to assess adult opinions about local youth substance use. As a youth substance abuse prevention organization, we use the information gathered from this survey to assess, develop and adjust our priorities to ensure positive results. Please take Christi's survey here: https://togethercd.org/2020-community-survey/"
Images below show most of her slides illustrating the main functions and findings of the organization; Douglas County data is similar to that of Chelan.

UPCOMING PROGRAMS
October 01 - CLASSIFICATION TALKS
With Matthew Michelson & Sean Cooper
Two of our newer members will tell us about themselves, their careers as well as their family and backgrounds. All new members are asked to make this presentation, and these are the favorite programs for many members.
Matthew Michelson joined the club November 7, 2019, sponsored by Pete Van Well. He is the Food Service and On- Premise Area Sales Manager at Swire Coca-Cola, USA, which produces, sells and distributes Coca-Cola and other beverages in 13 states across the American West, including parts of Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
He graduated from Omak High School in 2005 and attended Wenatchee Valley College. He has three amazing children, Miracle, 11, Mathias 9 and Izaiah 9 months.
Sean Cooper joined the club February 6, 2020 sponsored by Garry Sparks. He is the President and CCO of Fit Financial Consulting LLC and best-selling author of “The Truth About Investing: Back to Basics”. He attained his MBA with a focus in finance from the University of Colorado and his BSBA with a major in finance from the University of Denver. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designations. Sean enjoys spending time with his wife, Anastasia, and two lops, Beast and Belle. In his free time, he tries to do as much hiking, SCUBA diving, traveling, and reading as he can. It comes as no surprise to his friends and family that he still loves building spreadsheets, conducting multiple regression analysis, and various other analysis in excel and R in his down time too. Read about his induction in the Appleseed of that week.
At the meeting, you will learn much more about these amazing members.
The goal of the Project is to reach out to local homeless, high-risk & in-need teen students during the holidays to let them know they matter and have not been forgotten by their community. Top priorities of each year's main event are to: invite locals to "Stuff-a-Sackpack" with practical, fun and non-perishable food items as well as a handwritten card of encouragement. In addition, warm clothing & essential needs of teens are met as much as possible. Stuff-a-Sackpack was started in 2014 as an outreach for 80 teens at Solomon’s Porch and has evolved into partnerships with 5 local schools: Wenatchee High School, WestSide High School, Eastmont High School, Eastmont Junior High School & Wenatchee Valley Tech Center.

CARMEN
BOSSENBROCK
Ten (or more) things we didn't know about Gene Anderson.
Gene's Dad was from Sweden, immigrating at age 17 via Ellis Island.
His dad spoke no English, but had an uncle in Brainard, MN.
There he worked on N. Pacific RR, ending up in Pasco, where Gene was born, 12/30/1928.
Gene had a bossy sister born a year later, before his dad took a RR job in Spokane.
He graduated HS there in 1947, joined the US Navy at age 17.
He was sent to the Navy Air Technical Training Center, Memphis, TN. (aviation electrician)
He was assigned to Moffit Field near San Francisco on an all-weather fighter squadron.
He spent time on USS Boxer (carrier) during night-time pilot training during the Korean Conflict.
He left Navy in 1951 after 4 years; graduated UW in 1957, degree in Construction Management.
He married his wife during his junior year at UW.
Employed with US Steel in Pittsburg, CA; then took a 3-year job back Spokane.
Express Pros found him a job in Yakima, but he was assigned to Valley Evaporating, Chelan Falls, to manage a plant upgrade from its messy state.
Ross Packing, a competitor, offered Gene a position as Plant Manager, in Selah
After the plant burned, he managed rebuilding with state-of-the-art processing
He later became manager of the Treetop plant in Wenatchee.
After about 3.5 years (as usual) another opportunity - Express Pros franchise territories (NCW). He retired in year 2000.
His Rotary career began in 1965 in Chelan as secretary-treasurer, then same in Wenatchee-North club (now Confluence), then same at Yakima SW.
He has served in many ways in this club (Club Board, Foundation Board, several park projects, and the miniature railroad). He was a lunch buddy, and chaired the Sgt.-at-arms committee. Gene expressed deep appreciation for his time in Rotary.
