A Day in the life of
a Fish veterinarian

With Dr. Betsy Bamberger
Douglas County PUD Fish Veterinarian
  Previous Appleseed.

The speaker explained some of her routine daily duties, which include primarily aquatic creatures involved in food production. She also related her path to becoming part of this unusual field, beginning with an early fascination with aquaria and aquatic life and her related hobby at home. She now spends most of her time at Wells Dam, one of the seven on the Columbia River; located near Pateros, it includes a fish hatchery.  She explained how hatcheries work and how many fish they produce at Wells, as well as the many different types.  Betsy is responsible to ensure all of these millions of fish survive, and she described the many different hazards and illnesses that the fish can face, along with the technical and political challenges encountered in her field.
For the complete program, watch the Zoom video recording linked above.

IMAGINE ROTARY MOMENTS.

You know that when you have a membership to a club, credit card or even Costco, you get certain benefits with your membership.    That is the same with Rotary.  Plus, with Rotary, you get to meet and work with some incredible individuals.    That is where Rotary Action Groups come into play.  I encourage you to check out all the existing Rotary Action Groups, or if you are passionate about something, create one.   That is how Rotarians continue to make an impact.  Individually and together.

Secretary Frank reported on his visit with wife Quita, to the Chelan Rotary glass recycling center (911 Glass Rescue).  He observed the operation, then volunteered for an hour at the drop-off station where locals can bring glass for a small fee and purchase the crushed product, or they can volunteer and get free product.  It is located at the Chelan Transfer Station: 23235 Highway 97A (Across from Walmart).  Frank is encouraging our members volunteer to accept glass from other members and make an occasional pilgrimage there, or to just go and volunteer.  The center is open 10 AM to noon each Saturday, and is operated by all volunteers.  Next, our club needs to get serious about starting a similar project here, perhaps joining with the other clubs.  View Frank's brief PowerPoint here.
