COVID STORIES
Hello members,

As a service club, we need to spotlight our service to the community and the world.  Can you please share with me what you are doing during this time to make a difference.  I know the majority of us are not just sitting at home watching Netflix 24/7.    Many of us are still working,  making masks, reaching out to people or supporting small business, etc.    Please send me an email at chaoscontrolmarketing@gmail.com with the details of how you and your family are engaged to make a difference in our pandemic world.  I would love concrete facts and photos speak volumes.  I will be sharing on our social media channels.  If you want to share what you are doing, but don’t want to be identified, just let me know!    Thank you for helping me show the world why today is a great day to be a Rotarian!

Thanks!
Jill Leonard

Every year we have 3 positions on the board that we vote on. The term is for 3 years and one can serve 2 consecutive back to back terms before coming off the board. We vote at our Annual meeting which will be held Thursday May 21st, 2020.
Up for re-election is Susan Albert and Tyler Mickey.

Susan has been instrumental in helping the Foundation start Legacy giving to build the Corpus.
Tyler has been serving as Treasurer and doing well.   Our preference is that we elect both for a 3 year term.

We have 3 strong candidates that have said yes to serving on the board that I want to present for your consideration to complete the 3rd position, Shannon Sims, Ken Robertson, and Mark Kulaas.

WEEK IN REVIEW -  May 07 (ZOOM)
     Washington Apple Education Foundation
With Jennifer Witherbee & Pete Van Well
Website - http://waef.org/
(ZOOM password Password =  2b+m090l)
(Unedited.  Program begins at T = 26 minutes; Hear speaker only HERE.)
Jennifer received a glowing introduction from her sponsor Pete Van Well, who had a hand in her appointment to her position, saying it was one of his best ever decisions.
The Washington Apple Education Foundation is the charity of the tree fruit industry.  Its mission is to impact lives through access to educational opportunities for children of apple-industry employees.   The foundation celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2019.  In its 25-year history, the foundation has assisted over 2000 students with scholarship support totaling $9 million.   With recent growth, the foundation now awards over $1 million annually in scholarships.  About 300 students receive WAEF scholarships each year.   WAEF scholarship support extends beyond financial awards.  The foundation’s goals for its scholarship recipients are they each graduate from college on-time and prepared to launch their careers.  To that end, foundation activities occur year-round providing support, career guidance and mentoring.   Annually, about 200 volunteers participate in WAEF serving in capacities that include governance committee, student mentoring and more.   She has a staff of 4, and they are trying to apply technology better to improve efficiency.
Jennifer's program consisted mostly of 3 short but impactful video testimonials:  2 students, a graduate now volunteering, and a donor.

She also was proud of the new Washington state apple licence plate, available to order after July 01, at DOL/specialty plates sponsored by Sen. Hawkins.
