The We Day program will be hosted in the WestSide High School cafeteria by principal Kory Kalahar (president 2020-21).
Kory will introduce WestSide’s Leadership Club advisor, Sheena Zacherle, who will share the inception of the club and what it means to earn a spot and attend We Day. We will also hear from Ruben Rosales, Leadership Club President, who was honored by We Day on stage April 18th in front of 25,000 people in the Tacoma Dome!
We Day is an international celebration of middle and high school service projects to impact the community and world. We Day travels from state to state hosting a huge concert-like party for the students going above and beyond. You can’t buy tickets to We Day, you earn them with service projects. More on this next week.
We will be having a BBQ, so please bring $5 to grab a burger or hot dog or bring a sack lunch! It will be a fun time program with no pop quizzes and hopefully no one will steal your lunch money. Guests are always welcome.
MAY 16 - WENATCHEE ROTARY FOUNDATION
Wenatchee Rotary Foundation Annual Meeting
& Board Nominations
Your Wenatchee Rotary Foundation will be holding it’s annual meeting Thursday, May 16, 2019.
Come hear all about the exciting recipients of the 2019 scholarships. Please plan to attend and find out what work your foundation has been doing for you.
We are a stand alone nonprofit managed by members of this club. Each year one third of this board is up for reelection; or after two terms replacement. The annual meeting of the Foundation will be during the Club's May 16th lunch meeting and the election will take place at that time. See chart below for list of current officers and board.
We encourage any of you interested in running for an open position to let me know. We are a working board (about an hour per month of your time plus a one hour meeting most months). We seek two skill sets: 1. Those interested in helping us grow our corpus - fundraising. 2. Those interested in helping award scholarships and gifts. This is a fun and rewarding board and I hope you will consider joining us. I hope to see you May 16 at noon.
Our program last week was given by Jillian Danley, the Donor Relations Officer for Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho. Ms. Danley gave the club a thorough overview of both Planned Parenthood, and their efforts in our region. She explained that PP’s mission was to provide exceptional health care, honest education and fearless advocacy for all. The organization’s mission is to ensure that all people have access to the resources and care they need to be healthy, plan their futures and achieve their dreams.
Some of the highlights from her presentation:
The non-profit healthcare provider is 100% located in medically underserved regions, and served over 31,000 local patients last year, 63% of which are under the Federal Poverty Line
Planned Parenthood never turns away anyone from care if they are unable to pay, and they never send people to collections
A key part of their work is providing support and services to at-risk and underserved population groups, including transgendered peoples (who Jillian informed the club have a life expectancy of 30 years of age, due to high suicide and murder rates for this group)
Another core function of Planned Parenthood in our community is providing medically-accurate, age-appropriate, and evidence-based health care education to youth, adults and families (club member Kory Kalahar called out this service as very beneficial to schools like Westside)
For more information, statistics and details about our regional Planned Parenthood organization, please check out Jillian’s PowerPoint or visit their website. You may also wish to Listen to program audio .

President Pete, with no explanation, opened the meeting of the Alfonso Lopezof Rotary clubs and made or allowed these announcements:
Mike Kintner explained the Board's rationale in its recent decision to hold another auction; it will be January 25, 2020 (so as not to conflict with our centennial celebration January 16, 2021). We are excited to have two new co-chairs, Bill Murray and Barbara Walters (assisted by Jay and Jill as needed). Suggestions were collected to be considered for naming the primary beneficiary focus, although Mike admits his favorite cause is "scholarships". Listen here to Mike's announcement.
