BUILDING COMMUNITIES AUCTION UPDATE
Auction! Auction! Auction!
We have been talking about donating or purchasing tickets. We need the Rotary members and the community to help make the 2019 auction a success. The committee has set a goal of $125,000 net to help build communities in the Wenatchee Valley! Ever wonder what the money raised will be used for? This is a short list of how we will use the proceeds from the Auction 2019.
Lincoln Park BMX Track and 2nd Picnic Shelter
Wenatchee Rotary Foundation (Scholarship Fund)
Rotary Park
Interact Club Service Project
Community Service Committee Grants; past projects include Library, Westside HS, Pybus Foundation, and Chelan County K9 unit
As you can see we do many projects impacting a variety of interests; funds stay in our community.
I encourage you to get involved. Ask Jay Smith and myself how you can help! Gather friends and plan to attend the auction on January 26, 2019. Register or purchase tickets here.

Auction Co-chair
From Doug Button, sponsorship chair.
Our auction fundraiser is fast approaching on January 26, 2019. As members of Wenatchee Rotary we have all agreed to support this auction with the proceeds going to support various local projects. So far we have been able to secure several large donations from local businesses and organizations. We are now in the process of asking for table sponsors. This is where we need your help. Each of you need to consider being a table sponsor or asking your friends and neighbors. Our goal this year is to obtain 35 sponsors at $600.00 each. This also includes two tickets to the auction a $130.00 value. Remember this is your auction and to be successful we need your help and involvement. For more information pertaining to table sponsors and donations contact Garry Sparks, Terry Sorom or myself. Together we can make this our most successful fundraiser ever. See sponsor details.
A large enthusiastic crowd gathered to celebrate regional sports and athletics while enjoying an excellent buffet of typical tailgate fare of brats, barbecue pork and chicken, and potato salad. No-host wine & beer was available, as well as a ticket raffle and opportunity to buy pool squares for the upcoming annual Applecup game. The event was arranged by Wenatchee Central Lions with support from Wenatchee Rotary. Most attendees wore school colors, some decorated their tables. Prizes were awarded which Wenatchee Rotary dominated; see Joe St. Jean's "Just So Ya' Know" below.
During lunch, the big screen continuously displayed video of the recent Battle of the Bridges game. A highlight was the School Fight Song Roll Call. As each song is played, fans stand and sing along. Excellent entertainment was provided by the Eastmont School District Bonga Marimba Band. Listen to the 15 minute concert. Watch 2 short video clips... #1 ... #2.
The keynote speaker was BJ Kuntz, Dean of Students at Wenatchee High School, who gave an excellent and inspirational talk. She brought with her two guests who spoke briefly. Listen to the complete 36-minute AUDIO .
Just so ‘ya know…#14 - Tailgate Braggin' Rights!
Rotarians in attendance at our annual Tailgate Party held in conjunction with Central Lions Club should certainly hold their heads high. We whooped’em! Not Huskies vs Cougars, but the Rotary Club of Wenatchee vs. the rest of the known world.
* Best Table Decorations – Central Washington University took home top honors for the second year in a row.
Thanks to recent member – Ashley Gillum for her efforts on behalf of CWU Alumni, Joe and Teri St.Jean.
* The Best School Spirit Attire award was split between two of our club members. Dawn Davies won with a vintage WSU sweater and Chuck Jinneman with his ’57 WSU Letterman’s jacket.
* And during the raffle drawing, Past President Don Myers’ table took home three of the wonderful gift items. Paul Pankey also won a box of apples.
If you missed out on the fun event, plan on attending next year and have fun in Rotary!
Submitted by Susan Albert. The Interact students completed their 4th year of plantng native plants with Susan Ballinger on Veterans Day. The project is an ongoing effort to stabilize the native area above Horselake Road. "We had a great time. We also decided to do a fundraising project for the Chelan Douglas Land Trust. More info on that right after Thanksgiving. " Jon Magnus, adviser.
Bell-Ringer Volunteers are needed: Saturday, December 1st.
Did you know… the Salvation Army has served the needy in our community for 110 years!
Just think about that for a moment… that means that this service organization’s work in our community pre-dates the founding of our service club!
Your Wenatchee Rotary has generously supported the work of the Salvation Army for many years and volunteering for the Red Kettle drive is a holiday tradition with our club. Wenatchee Rotary members will be ringing the bell at two locations on Saturday December 1st from 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM. We are asking for at least 12 volunteers to each serve a 2-3 hour shift. All that is required is for volunteers to bring your holiday cheer and greet customers coming and going from the store. And, oh yes, ring that bell!
Dick Reed will coordinate the sign-up for Wenatchee Rotary members. Please email Dick directly with your commitment.
Locations:
Safeway - Wenatchee (two doors)

End Polio Now/Club 60:
Our ambitious goal has been set by President Pete at $10,000 ($192 per week!).
We continue our 10-year relationship with the Gates Foundation; since 2013, they have matched each dollar with $2 toward polio eradication.
Donations by club members on Nov. 8 = $28.06are added to our share of the Area-9 polio meal of $227 thus bringing our total $1163 or $3489with the Gates match. This equates to 5826 lives saved. Collections at KPQ were $1133. Read about World Polio Day, October 24
