     BUILDING COMMUNITIES AUCTION RESULTS
JANUARY 25, 2020
We did it!  Our Club had an amazing event Saturday.    The buzz is the room was electric and we raised some money for our goals.  How much you ask?    That will be coming  in the next few weeks.  I can tell you that everyone had a wonderful time, food was delicious and we raised some serious cash!

Thank you for our Presenting Sponsor, Confluence Health.  Major Sponsors: Cascade AutoCenter, Alpine Aire, Washington Trust, Columbia Valley Community Health, JP Portrait Studio, and Carmen Bossenbrock.
A shout out to all the table sponsors, donations, and attendees.

And I am honored to be part of the Auction Committee.  This group worked hard and fast to make this the event of 2020.    Be sure to thank the committee members when you see them.

Please be patient as we get all items entered, accounted for, and totals tallied.  If you are missing an item or have a question, please contact Jill Leonard, 509-670-5742 or chaoscontrolmarketing@gmail.com.  We will be sending out donor receipts,  receipts for all purchases and raise the paddle donations, and thank you letters to everyone.

Feel free to post any photos from the evening on the Wenatchee Rotary Club facebook page.
Event photos can be viewed and downloaded HERE.

   FELLOWSHIP EVENT FEB. 1

Now that the auction is wrapping up!  It is time to get Wild.
This Saturday, February 1 we are having a fellowship event at the Wenatchee Wild game.  The Wenatchee Wild just clinched a Playoff spot over the weekend.  It is the annual Guns and Hoses Game which spotlights local firefighters and law enforcement.  It also is youth jersey giveaway night.    Tickets are $15 each and available at the link until Thursday at 5:00pm.    We will be selling tickets at the meeting on Thursday if you want to bring check or cash.  A portion of the tickets will be donated back to the club as a fundraising effort.
Please note all tickets must be purchased by 5pm Thursday to qualify for the fundraiser.   We can still purchase tickets on Friday and Sunday, but they will not be included in the fundraising.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

We will have a no host bar and food available for purchase in the Orchard room before the game.  Bring your family, friends and co-workers for an exciting game of hockey.
And as stated at the meeting, if you have never attended a hockey game before, Jill Leonard would love to have you as her guest.  Contact her directly by Wednesday, January 29 to coordinate.
____________

Rotary Club of Penticton Event.  The Rotary Club of Penticton has invited us to join them on February 21, 2020 in Penticton for the Wenatchee Wild vs.  Penticton Vees game.    Tickets are $15 cdn.  Tickets are available by contacting Kevin Johnson.   The Penticton Club has a night full of fun and fellowship for our clubs.   For those who don’t want to drive, the Wenatchee Wild is taking a fan bus to Penticton that weekend.   Fan bus pricing includes hockey games February 21-22, hotel accommodations for February 21 and transportation.  More details can be found at Wenatcheewildhockey.com or call Arch Ecker at 509-888-7825.   Space is limited but the fun is not.

Volunteer Opportunities – February and March

Wenatchee Rotary Club is known for its community outreach in order to help worthwhile causes.  Two such opportunities arise in the near future.  Please volunteer if you can…

1) The Winter Special Olympics will be held in the Wenatchee Valley from February 28 through March 1.  Lots of volunteers are needed to help run the various events.  Do you like the outdoors?  They are events in skiing and snow boarding.  Do you want to be indoors?  How helping monitor a gym during a basketball game or assist where needed at the Saturday night dance for the athletes?  The following link will get you to the  Special Olympics website for volunteers:
If you want to specifically help some of your fellow Rotarians as we work on making/assembling the decorations for the dance,  there will be a signup sheet circulated at several of our February Rotary meetings.

2) The Wenatchee Rotary Club has volunteered to help during the Green Bag/Mail Carriers Food Drive on Saturday, March 14.   On the afternoon of  the food drive, we will be assisting in the unbagging,  sorting, and boxing  of the food items for distribution to needy families.  It is our club’s first time in assisting so we are not really sure of the time frame, but we are guessing 3-4 hours in the afternoon.  You will be hearing more about this as we near the month of March, but save the date for a fun volunteer opportunity.

Questions?  Contact Joe St. Jean, Gary Provo, or Frank Jorgensen

We were sad to learn of the loss of another giant of our club history, with the passing of Melvin Johnson, age 88, on Saturday December 28.  He was past president #73, serving the year 1992-93.  Mel joined the club in November 1980, and became an honorary member in 2010, serving a total of 40 years.  He was a Paul Harris Fellow.  A memorial service will be announced later.

Dr. Stan Hoyt, aged 90.  Stan was a longtime Rotarian (36 years) and fixture in the community.  He was a regular attendee despite health issues in his later years.  Stan was well respected in both our club and also in the Wenatchee area.  Both he and his wife Beverly are Paul Harris Fellows.  His memorial is planned for February 1 at Wenatchee Golf & CC, time - 2 PM.
OBITUARY LINK.  Read his obit to learn about the WSU scholarship fund setup in his and Bev's names (donations welcome).

End Polio Now/Club 60:      Our goal this year is $7500.  On January 23, Club-60-cup donations totaled  $23.30 bringing our total to $1138  or $3414 with the Gates match!   This equates to 5700 lives potentially saved to date!
On World Polio Day, October 24, collections at KPQ totaled. about $700 by our club.  Also, total donations at the Greatest Dinner to End Polio were about $6611 between all clubs represented, plus about $700 in pledges.  Other uncounted donations are made by members through other avenues.
15%        [Goal is $7500 for Rotary year]

Note:  We continue our 10-year relationship with the Gates Foundation.  Since 2013, they have matched each dollar with $2 toward polio eradication.
