Annual Christmas Party
With Santa and the elves

This Thursday there will be some Christmas energy at the meeting. We are hosting students from Columbia Elementary. Santa will make an appearance to deliver presents and spread the holiday cheer.  Everyone is welcome to attend, even if you did not purchase a meal. Bring spouses, partners, and guests and witness the magic of Rotary during the holidays.

🎶 Be Prepared for:
  • Christmas Carols
  • Fun Games
  • Delicious Food
  • We are making our annual donations to the Salvation Army.
We need table hosts to help the children feel welcome. Let Jessi or Alice Meyer know if you'd like to be a table host.

There will be no Zoom option this week.  We want everyone to have the opportunity to participate and enjoy the meeting.   Make plans to attend in person.
Last week - Skiing Uphill
With Pat West Turner

Pat was introduced by her friend Joe St. Jean who said she was a faithful and excellent teacher during his days as a school principal.

She spoke of her recent life after losing her right leg as a teenager and read some touching quotes from her book, Skiing Uphill.  She told of her horrible accident at Mission Ridge, and how she thought she might die.

Pat was raised in North Central Washington in the town of Entiat. Now she lives in East Wenatchee, Washington with her husband of forty years, Joe.

She has been active at her local ski area, Mission Ridge, learning to three-track ski in 1966.    Currently, she facilitates a 'Writing for Clarity' group.  Her book tells her story.  You can purchase Pat's book at the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center.

Multi Club Fellowship Event
Do Good Drink Beer, December 6, 4:30-7:00 pm

It's a Multi-club Rotary Fellowship event, on Wednesday, December 6th as we "Do Good, and Drink Beer" to benefit Give NCW.

All Day long, we will donate $1 for every Hellbent Pint & $2 for every "Pint to Go" (glassware included, availability limited).

Give NCW was created to build awareness of nonprofit organizations serving the region and provide an easy way for anyone to give. The Community Foundation of NCW, organizers of Give NCW, is a tax-exempt philanthropic organization that helps individuals, families, businesses, and agencies support charitable causes throughout Chelan, Douglas, and Okanogan counties.

“Our goal with Give NCW is to help build a culture of philanthropy in North Central Washington, where everyone feels they can give back to the community they love,” said Beth Stipe, the foundation’s executive director. “Give NCW is an easy way to give locally and learn about new nonprofits doing work improving the quality of life across the region.”
EarlyAct at Pinnacles Prep volunteered at the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center.   The volunteers served hot cocoa and snacks to the families who attended the event.

Rotary Logo Update- New Name Badges
In order to abide to the Rotary International brand standards, we are updating our name badges to be brand compliant.   This is not mandatory, there will be a bulk order placed on December 16 for all prepared orders. The cost is $10. Email Frank Clifton to order a replacement badge.  It will look similar to this, without the words "since 1921".

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION
On this final day of Rotary Foundation month, Club secretary and TRF Chair Frank Clifton appealed to the club not to neglect The Rotary Foundation (TRF) during this season of giving, declaring TRF to be the heart and soul of Rotary, providing grants to many worthwhile projects worldwide, such as the Haiti HANWASH program which we support.
One of the primary goals of the TRF Committee is to have the club become an EREY club during Gary's year.  The main requirement is that each active member donate $25 during the Rotary year to the Annual Fund (which provides most Rotary grants).  We can all do that. Use the "Donate button" below or hand a check to Frank (made out to The Rotary Foundation Annual Fund).

Update on meeting Gary's TRF giving goals as reported to RI:
                                      GOAL             ACTUAL             %
Annual Fund                   $4,000              $2125               53%
Polio Fund                      $4,000              $1325               33%

President Gary was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow plus 1 at the November 30, 2023 club meeting

Service Opportunities

Waste Loop Needs Volunteers

Waste Loop recently received 2 grants focused on building the circular economy and reducing waste in NCW. The first grant supports the development and implementation of monthly repair cafes. These will be free community events for folks to bring items that are broken to get repaired by volunteer fixers! Right now I'm in the process of finding and recruiting fixers - people with skills in sewing/mending, bicycle repair, small electronics, general tinkering, etc. To sign up, complete the volunteer form.

The 2nd grant is larger in scope and supports the development of a ReUse center! This will eventually be a one-stop shop for salvaged building materials, tool library, and workshop space (with Repair Cafes ultimately housed within this space). We just signed a year lease on a space in Cashmere! It's a very exciting undertaking, and we've expanded our team by hiring 2 people to focus solely on this project. Right now (through December 15th) we are accepting community submissions for a name. If you have ideas feel free to submit here.

Any questions can be directed to Natalie Williams.
