New president Gary Provo presented his vision for the coming Rotary year, i.e. what he hopes the club will accomplish. Below is a summary of his comments. View the full statement here. He bases his thoughts on the Founding Principles of Rotary and founder Paul Harris, who famously stated “Whatever Rotary may mean to us, to the world it will be known by the results it achieves.” He made reference to the RI Mission, Vision Statement and motto, and recognized RI’s ongoing commitment that endures today through an organization that remains truly international. Only 16 years after being founded, Rotary had clubs on six continents. Our members now span the globe, working to solve some of our world’s most challenging problems.
Gary addressed the major factors impacting our operations and hopes of maintaining our current momentum. He praised former leaders who led us through and out of the recent pandemic, while especially singling out PP Jill Leonard, instrumental in leading us to great success in the last year.

Summary of Gary's specific areas of focus, to be addressed by the board and membership:
member growth
financial challenges with action
a fundraising plan and budget
consider periodic annual fee increases that will offset the annual cost increases
determine how members might realize tax deductions from the portion of dues devoted to charitable causes
find meeting venue alternatives and reach an informed conclusion regarding meals.
Some Challenges were identified, such as membership demographics, our financial situation, meeting locations, food service, and fund-raising. Gary emphasized that he and the board are merely servants of the membership, and he welcomes input from the members concerning all matters facing the club.
He is a strong believer in the theme of RI President (and former member) Dr. Ed Cadman for his presidential year: “You Are the Key!"

FIRE-WISE EVENT JULY 13 & more. Natalie Williams reports.....
People are invited to an evening of community conversation and fun activities while learning how to better protect themselves from the impacts of wildfire smoke. No Community Left Behind: Fire-Wise and Smoke Readiness will be held 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, at the Pybus Public Market event center.
A live-streaming event will be held in conjunction that evening at the Chelan Fire Hall, 232 E Wapato Ave. in Chelan. People attending the live-streaming event will have the opportunity to also listen to speakers and participate in the discussions.
The new community event aims to not only raise public awareness around the impacts of wildfire smoke on human health but to also educate people on the actions they can take to better prepare themselves for wildfire season and those periods of heavy smoke that they bring annually to the area.
