WEEK IN REVIEW -  June 25 (ZOOM #14)
Program: District Governor visit, plus Kory's vision
Watch the ZOOM video HERE  [password - DGVisit7-2-20! ]
DG Richard was introduced by new Area 8 Assistant Governor Shanley Crane, past president of East Wenatchee Rotary.  Richard is CEO of Link Transit in Wenatchee.
In 2002, Richard and his family relocated to Wenatchee where he took the role of the General Manager/CEO of Link Transit.  At the same time, Robin resumed her nursing career at the Wenatchee Valley Hospital.  With his relocation to Wenatchee, Richard joined the Wenatchee Rotary Club and began his Rotary career.  In 2003, Richard became the Youth Exchange Officer for the Wenatchee Club and served on the Board of the Wenatchee club for 6 years. In 2004, Robin served as the bus trip chaperon and joined the District Youth Exchange Committee in 2005.  Richard joined the District Youth Exchange Committee at the same time and served on the committee for 11 years including 4 years as the Committee Chair.  Robin joined the Wenatchee Rotary club in 2007. Richard and Robin have been active host parents, hosting 17 exchange students over the past 15 years.  Both of their children were Youth Exchange Students.  Alicia went to Switzerland in 2005-2006 and Alex went to Turkey in 2009-2010. In 2016, Richard retired from his role on the Youth Exchange Committee to pursue other Rotary opportunities
Richard and Robin are multiple Paul Harris Fellows, Bequest Society members and Richard is a Paul Harris Society Member. In 2017, Robin transferred to the Wenatchee Sunrise club due to changes in her job.  Soon after, Richard transferred to the Wenatchee North Rotary club to serve as its 2017-18 President.  While serving as the Wenatchee North President, Richard determined that the club needed to re-organize and he led an effort to re-charter the club as the Wenatchee Confluence Rotary club and served as it’s Charter President in 2018-19 .
Richard continues in his role as the Link Transit CEO and has been very active in State and National transit associations and interfacing with both State and National legislators.  Both Richard and Robin look forward to their experience as Governor and Sidekick to expand their Rotary friendships and Rotary service.

Below are portions of his talk.
"I am here today to introduce myself to you and your club and speak a bit about Rotary’s vision and strategic priorities. I would then like to share with you how your club fits into this vision and is a critical component of this extraordinary organization that is Rotary International. Finally, I want to share how our district is here to support the success of your club and your projects.   Let us start with Rotary’s new vision statement. I believe that it is really powerful and encompasses what we are all about.
The statement is:
'Together we see a world where People unite and take action to Create lasting Change across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves.
The statement has the words, Together, People, Create and Change bolded to create the summary – Together People Create Change.'

What a wonderful and meaningful statement. If we take this vision to heart and use it as a guide for decision making and resource allocation, we can increase the effectiveness and vitality of our clubs
To achieve this vision, Rotary has adopted these four strategic priorities:
  1. Increase our impact
  2. Expand our reach
  3. Enhance Participant Engagement
  4. Increase our ability to adapt
I think these strategies are exactly what we need to succeed and to thrive. In fact, the Governor’s Council found these strategic priories to be so on point, that we decided to adopt them into our multi-year plan and align our efforts around them. Interestingly, as we were considering if we needed to change our priorities to fit our current situation, we decided that these strategies actually fit very well into our Covid-19 centered world and should continue as we go forward."
Richard went on to describe his life leading up to becoming DG.  His impressive career prior to becoming director of Link Transit, included several management positions with transit systems in the Los Angeles (CA) region.  Read more about Richard and Robin on the D5060 home page .

Challenge Scholarship Program - Message from Earl Crowe

"We believe that volunteering and providing humanitarian services is the best way to build goodwill and peace locally and globally. Registration fees help support our Challenge Scholarship Program, focusing on at-risk high school students. Our club, while working with school counselors, identify 10th grade students that are at risk of not graduation high school. After the selection process, up to 8 students are paired with mentors (club members) for a two-year period. During the two-year period, club members help keep the students on track to graduate, with the possibility of 2 students being awarded a $10,000 scholarship each to the college or trade school of their choice.

The Wenatchee Sunrise Rotary Club helps fund a number of local projects such as Rotary Park, and the Second Harvest Food Truck. Our club is also involved with hunger & disaster relief, Polio eradication, international student exchange programs, and numerous community projects."  Earl Crowe, President, Wenatchee Sunrise RC

 COVID STORIES
Hello members,

As a service club, we need to spotlight our service to the community and the world.  Can you please share with me what you are doing during this time to make a difference.  I know the majority of us are not just sitting at home watching Netflix 24/7.    Many of us are still working,  making masks, reaching out to people or supporting small business, etc.    Please send me an email at chaoscontrolmarketing@gmail.com with the details of how you and your family are engaged to make a difference in our pandemic world.  I would love concrete facts and photos speak volumes.  I will be sharing on our social media channels.  If you want to share what you are doing, but don’t want to be identified, just let me know!    Thank you for helping me show the world why today is a great day to be a Rotarian!

Thanks!
