Last week - Chelan Douglas Land Trust
With Eunice Youmans, Executive Director

Eunice is a new member of the club and was introduced by her sponsor, President Gary Provo.  She is from the state of Massachusetts.

The Chelan-Douglas Land Trust works cooperatively with private landowners and local communities to ensure that we will be able to enjoy the benefit of the lands and waters we all love for years to come. Our approach is successful because it is collaborative, voluntary, and incentive-based.  They work in different ways to protect (from development) land having high conservation or reclamation value via purchasing at market value or conservation easements.  They manage these lands "forever", sometimes working with partners such as the PUD.

CDLT has been around for almost 40 years and is protecting about 30,000 acres for recreation, conservation, and to protect endangered species.  Some current issues:

  • Protecting farmland
  • Working with tribes
  • Need for more sustainable funding models
  • Impacts of climate change and wildfire resilience

Our work includes land protection projects, education and outreachstewardshiptrails, and landowner services.
